Here is what you get in the kit:

You will appreciate the three easy-to-use teacher's manuals with complete instructions and a simple, but efficient assessment system. Anyone who can read can teach this program successfully.

Your student will enjoy the wide variety of activities for learning and practicing skills in phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, handwriting, writing, spelling, grammar, concept development, listening, and following directions in the three student work texts.

There is a CD of lively, happy, sing-along, point and clap tunes will assist your child in learning and remembering the letter-sounds.

Your child will want to follow along and point to the letters and objects on the full-color wall chart while singing with the CD. This multi-sensory approach enhances the learning process.

You will see your child's self-esteem soar as he or she experiences success early and often when reading the
54 storybooks filled with child-pleasing illustrations. Success is assured because every word in every book will be a word that has already been taught and every word in every story is either a decodable word, consisting only of letter-sounds that have been mastered, or of sight words that have already been learned. Guided reading suggestions insure comprehension as each book is read.

The
510 word/sentence cards and 61 "Banana" cards are a non-threatening way to provide practice. Each card has a word with a sentence on the back. (Irregular words that must be memorized are printed on cards shaped like bananas as a memory aid.)

This is a letter of recommendation from a mother who has been using Astronauts to Zippers with her 5 year old son.

“ Astronauts to Zippers is a wonderful program! My son was 5 and starting kindergarten work when we started the program. Even before he was finished with Level 3, he was able to start reading books from the library. The fact that he did not have to know all his sounds before we started gave him success from the beginning. We hit a small bump when he first was learning to sound out the words, but once he got it, he has been reading successfully ever since. This summer we took a break, but we read books daily. When we started back on the program, it was easy. . . .

I keep the past 3 lessons hand for our review day each week. We read one book from each lesson. Then the most current vocabulary is used for tile spelling. The next current vocabulary is used for a spelling quiz, and then the last group, I use 5 sentences for dictation. Most of the time, he can write the sentences on one hearing. With the dictation, we also get a chance to review things like punctuation etc.

The only change I make in the format is the placement of the new vocabulary words and the comprehension exercise. At first the exercises were frustrating after the first reading of the book. So I introduced the new vocabulary and new book and save the exercise until the next session. This allows some processing time. He remembers more and has greater success this way. I’m sure as his reading improves, we will be able to do them all in the same session with great success.

This program is very exciting. I’m looking forward to starting my daughter soon. I believe it is the best reading program out there. I know it will give my children a wonderful start. Thanks Bunches, RP"

Here are another mother’s comments!
I am e-mailing you so that I might share with others the strong feelings I have concerning the Astronauts to Zippers phonics program.

In 1999, I attended a homeschool conference and participated in a how-to-class for teaching phonics to our children. The teacher was also the author of her own program called Astronauts to Zippers. After class, I purchased Kit 1 from her. My son was four-and-a-half years old. He took to the program immediately. The workbook, reading pamphlets and silly word cards were all eye catching and attention keeping. My son is now 9 years old and is reading on a seventh grade level and can sound out words and spell any word put to him. He gained a love for reading doing the program that he has never lost. I laminated the letter cards and continued to use them for review. We also laminated the ABC poster which is still in excellent condition. My second son who is 4 1/2 has looked at the ABC chart and listened to the music CD since he was a toddler. He goes around the house singing, "All letters have a name, all letters have a sound; which may not be the same." I have now ordered Kits 1 and 2 for him. I believe in this program and do highly recommend it to all mothers who want their children to have a knowledge of phonics that will bless them all of their lives. PB, Montgomery,AL

Pilot Study Results. "The children were not prepared at all when they came to school. They did not even know how to hold a pencil. I told Dr.Jane that I saw no way I could be successful when I looked at what she expected the students to be able to do."

"Once we started, they just sucked it up. These children were learning sentences, compound words, and contractions. It was amazing to see in kindergarten. I'm still shocked. It was extremely successful."
Lady Garth, Kindergarten Teacher, West Lowndes Elementary School, Columbus, MS.

"In 28 years Ive seen a lot of programs come and go. This program is excellent, and it works. It gives students a great start for first grade, we have upcoming first-graders who are nearly reading on a second grade level."
Fred Young, Principal, West Lowndes Elementary School, Columbus, MS
