The Master’s Recorder Courses
by Nick Filippeos

Your children can begin to learn the fine art of music at a very low cost from a Christian perspective using music that glorifies the Lord. The Master’s Music Courses are specially designed to meet the needs of every Christian wishing to study music. Aside from a few technical exercises, the music content consists entirely of Christian hymns, choruses and songs which reinforce all the music theory and techniques which are logically intriduced throughout the course.

The Master’s Recorder
Book 1

The recorder has long been used as an excellent instrument for young beginngers in learning the basic fundamentals of music and also serves as an excellent preparation for playing any of the woodwind instruments. A beautifully recorded accompaniment CD (or tape) for the songs in the book is also available. Have the thrill of playing along with an orchestra. German fingering is used throughout the texts, but for those who who wish to use Baroque recorders, that fingering is given where the difference exists.

(German Fingering), $9.90
We recommend this one because of the greater ease in transferring from the recorder to other woodwind instruments. The primary difference is in how the F above middle C is fingered.

The Master’s Alto Recorder Course
For Alto and Sopranino Recorders
Includes Chord Symbols for Accompanying Instruments

The Alto recorder is about 18 1/2 inches long and is an F-pithced instrument. The notes are traditionally written as they sound, but for the sake of thsoe wishing to play the Alto parts in the Hymnals, all music in this book is also notated one octave lower than the instrument sounds.

The Sopranino Recorder is the smallest in size and is about 9 inches long. It is an F-pitched instrument. The sound is one octave higher than written.

The introduction of notes for the Alto recorder posed a problem. Traditionally, Alto recorder music is read at actual pitch, which places the lowest note on this type of recorder in the First Space of the musical staff (F natural). This is a very logical way to learn this instrument, but poses a problem for the student wishing to play the Alto part of a hymnal using the Alto recorder, because the majority of notes that the Alto voice contains (in a Hymnal) are below this F natural note. Therefore, this book introduces the traditional notation on the pages marked (Traditional) and the tansposed notation (for Hymnal Use) on pages marked (Hymnal). Any pages not marked in these ways apply to both systems. Since most studnets using this book would have "graduated" from the Soprano recorder to the Alto, it is recommended that the student learn the pages marked (Hymnal) first, as this will be easier to visualize. Once proficiency is attained this way, the student may then go back to the pages marked (Traditional) and learn the traditional notation.
